WoW rating: We like the idea of circumnavigating things at WoW and this is a historical race that features an early start for walkers. Past experience has shown that the race organizers are not that committed to providing course support for these early starters. Early start at your own risk! Last year's inaugural event was a huge success. They gave walkers a separate division, start, results, and prizes. The race is “green” with on-line registration only; recycling stations; bike racks; re-usable race kit bags; bio-diesel pace vehicle (or bicycle!); used running shoe donation. Don't be on the fence as this race sold out last year. There will be a random draw for all 10k participants for a year’s free lease of a Mercedes-Benz car! Plus other huge draw prizes (all of which you have to be there for to be eligible).

Starts at Sporting Life, 2665 Yonge Street. Yonge Street is totally open for walkers/runners all the way down to Adelaide St. Technical shirts; postrun party; entertainment every mile. There is a time limit for walkers. 1 hour and 40 min for 10km or a 10 min per km pace. For idea of number of entrants it says "free shirts to the first 7500 entrants!!"

WoW rating: Route travels along Lakeshore from Clarkson to Port Credit. Surface changes and the narrowing of the course at the end can be challenging. Medals for the 10k! Organizers say walkers are welcome and there is a separate walker registration for the 10k but not for the 5k. Last year there were no separate walk results posted for the 10k. These races are held at 6pm and 6:30 pm on Saturday night before the marathons.

Particulars: 2007 was the inaugural year for this event. There is a competitive walking division (177 kilometres) and a recreational walking division (59 kilometres). For the competitive event, there are 3 stages and within the 3 stages there are 22 legs. The difficulty and length of each stage varies from 6 to 12 kilometres. Teams may have from 6 to 12 members. For the recreational event consists of one stage with 8 legs. Teams may have from 6 to 8 members.

Wow rating :This may be one of the most fun races in southern Ontario that welcomes walkers. The course is mostly trail walking with challenging terrain and one really kick-butt hill. The organizers are over-the-top supportive and encouraging. We can’t say enough about the post-race meal, the gym bag give-away, and the Toad medal. Good training is a must.

This looks to be a great race for women over forty. There is a full marathon and two-person-team half-marathon. You can find a partner for the team event at their website. If you are under 40 years old, you can do the half marathon team event if your partner is over 40.

Half marathon is a loop and the marathon is twice around. There is a time limit of 5 hours for police coverage but route will remain open till all are in. Handmade clay medal to all finishers. St. John's Ambulance is main beneficiary of funds raised. Flat, scenic country roads. WALKERS welcomed.

In 2006 they featured a separate course for walkers, entirely on the golf course over paved cart paths. There was also be a special start for walkers. The pasta dinner featured a pasta sauce designed by renowned Toronto restaurateur Oliver Bonacini (yes, we’re in this for the food!).

In the past, there has been very little support for walkers finishing at the end of this time limit. Also, Sunday pedestrians can clog the public path for the last few kilometres of the race. WoW rating:: Very flat, fast route, that travels the waterfront areas of Toronto. No early start for walkers. Marathon start 7 am; Half Marathon 7 am; 5km 7:45 am. Time limit Marathon 7 hours; Half Marathon 4 hours and 5km 1hour and 10 min. Well thought-out route and usually fun things to see like World Records being set, and a neighbourhood cheering challenge. Last year there were some complaints about disorganization and lack of aid stations at the Leslie Street spit area.
Particulars: First 2,000 registrations get a technical fabric shirt. All others will receive cotton.
