Vera Guthrie (and Lee)
|
In January 2004 Vera took the leap from fitness participant to fitness leader. She began power walking with Lee in April 2001 and has been coaching in High Park for us since the summer of 2003. Vera is an intuitive and encouraging coach. Vera is FIS certified through Can-fit-pro and has also received certifications in spinning, Schwinn cycling, and Resist-a-ball. Listing all of her races would take up too much space on the website but a few include the Niagara Falls Full Marathon, Ottawa Full and Half Marathons, Disney Full Marathon, the New York City Marathon as a guide, Around the Bay Road Race (30k) four times, Big Sur International Marathon 21-miler 3 times, Chilly Half Marathon three times, Oakville Half Marathon, Run for the Toad (25k) twice and countless 5k, 10k, and 15k events.

Karin Lynn Cummings
|
Karin Lynn changed her life walking – no exaggeration. After a life of inactivity and struggles with body image, Karin Lynn joined WoW Power Walking as a student and soon found herself crossing the finish lines of 6 half marathons. Since then she earned her Personal Trainer Certification (and a specialty designation working with Older Adults) and has become an inspiration to new walkers.

Jill Pettit

Jill (2009 Overall walking winner of the ING Ottawa FULL Marathon) started walking to raise money for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer and Team Diabetes with the Canadian Diabetes Association. She first trained with WoW Power Walking as part of Team Diabetes attending the Honolulu Marathon in 2005. In four incredible years, Her time in the marathon has gone from 6:19:25 to 4:55:55! And she is still getting faster and fitter. She will tell you that races motivate and inspire her. Her favourite races include Honolulu Marathon (1st marathon), Flora London Marathon (historic), Portland, Maine Marathon (PB), New York City Marathon (family affair), Niagara Ultra Marathon (1st ultra). Jill is a member of the 50 States Marathon Clubs. She is working to complete her American Council on Exercise (ACE) certification late in 2009 and she will be walking the Haliburton Forest 50 miler in September 2009 after winning the women’s walk division of the Niagara Ultra 50 in June.
